HOLYOKE- Ernest J. Ross, Jr., of Holyoke, died suddenly on Sunday March 20, 2011 at Holyoke Medical Center. Ernie was born in Springfield son of M. Sheila (McCann) Ross of Holyoke and the late Ernest J. Ross, Sr. He graduated from Worcester Academy in 1968 and Georgetown University in 1972. Ernie was Vice President of Ross Insurance Agency, Inc. in Holyoke. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church, a member of the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade Committee, Beavers Club, Holyoke Elks #902, Springfield Country Club, and the Holyoke Canoe Club. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Valley Opportunity Council and the Holyoke Taxpayers Association. Ernie is survived by his wife Kerry M. (Maloney) Ross, his beloved daughter Johanna Ross, one brother Kevin E. Ross and his wife Margo of Holyoke, three sisters: Kathleen Vetri and her husband Peter of Windham, NH, Maureen Ross O’Connell and her partner Harry J. Mattson, Jr. of Holyoke, and Jackie Glasheen and her husband Liam of Holyoke. He also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law Maureen Maloney, his sisters-in-law Kelly Shevlin and her husband John, Katherine Maloney, and a brother-in-law Keith Armstrong. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his brother Michael F. Ross, his father-in-law Anthony P. Maloney, and his sister-in-law Kara Armstrong. The funeral will be held Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 8:45 AM from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St. Holyoke followed by a Mass in Holy Cross Church at 10 AM. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 7 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
